How technology has made life easier

Technology has the power to make us marvel at its innovations. Space travel, high-speed rail, and robots that can climb stairs are all fantastic achievements. However, technology is at its most impressive when it improves the everyday stuff. Here is how technology is improving our daily lives by making it easier for us to enjoy ourselves and to work.

Shopping

The vast majority of us now shop online, and why wouldn’t we? It is so convenient. Before online shopping took off, you had to drive into town if you wanted to buy something, Many workers found it difficult to do shopping at any point until the weekend which meant long lines at supermarkets. Now, you can do your food shopping online during your lunch break and get it delivered to your house. You are free to browse your favorite shopping site for hundreds of thousands of products and order them with a few clicks.

Films and television

Watching films and television is something that many of us do on a daily basis. Before online streaming, we had TV, and before TV we had the radio. How we watch films and television shows has changed so much over the past 40 years. VHS introduced us to home cinemas and DVDs improved on the quality of what we watched. Online streaming services like Netflix and Amazon have made it so easy to find something great to watch instantly.

Paying the bills

Before direct debits became available, paying your bills meant writing a check and then sending it through the mail to whoever you owed the money to. Now, paying your bills happens automatically every single month with a direct debit so you don’t even have to think about it unless you want to change your provider and cancel the direct debit.

Playing the lotto

Americans buy lottery tickets every week without fail. The first lottery directly tied to North America was established as long ago as 1612 when King James I of England created a lottery to provide funds for the Jamestown settlers. It has changed quite a bit since then but never more so than with the introduction of the internet. There is a long list of tools available online to help you analyze past results and pick your numbers. Lottery tools are certainly changing how Americans play the lotto.

How we work

Is this the beginning of the end for the 9 to 5 working day? Office workers all across the US are now seeing the benefits that technology brings to their work/life balance. Before the advent of the internet and cloud technology, we were tethered to our desks and stuck in the office. However, now you can head home to look after a sick child and be able to keep working and stay in touch with your colleagues with ease. There is a variety of cloud technology apps that you can use to keep in touch and collaborate on word documents or spreadsheets.
