How to Stop Smoking Cold Turkey

There are multiple ways to stop smoking cold turkey. While the choice between the methods depends on the smoker, quitting cold turkey seems to be difficult for many smokers. However, there are numerous ways to make quitting cold turkey easier.
Pick a Date
This may sound easy. However, the date you choose to stop smoking should not be near any times that may be stressful. People who try to quit during stressful times are more likely to relapse into smoking than people who pick a non-stressful time to quit.
One example of a good time to quit is immediately upon returning from a vacation or other relaxing trip. Plan to smoke your last cigarette just before bedtime on the night you return home.
Take Action
Once you pick your cessation date, it is time to take action. You must throw away all the cigarettes and other smoking paraphernalia in the house, including lighters and ashtrays. This may seem like a daunting task, but it is necessary to reaffirm your commitment to quitting.
Get Help
Some smokers can quit cold turkey by simply deciding to do so. Other smokers may need a great deal of help. Finding a good support system of family and friends will help. Smoking cessation products, such as nicotine replacement, will also help. While these do give your body a small amount of nicotine, they are not as addictive as cigarettes. If you decide to use nicotine replacement, include the gradual decrease of the product in your cessation plan.
