Münsterländer (Small) – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Small Münsterländer is an excellent hunting, pointing and retrieving dog breed. Otherwise known as the Kleiner Münsterländer, this dog originates from Münster, Germany. While the breed is strong in some European countries such as Germany, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, there are very few in the United Kingdom. They were only recently recognized by the Kennel Club of England in 2006 as an imported breed.

Small Münsterländers have a mostly brown coat, with white and tan spots throughout their body. Their coat is soft and of medium length. Their fur tends to tangle easily with a lot of hunting activity, so regular grooming is important for keeping their hair from becoming matted. They weigh an average of 20 kilograms. Their height ranges from 45 to 55 centimetres. Small Münsterländers are very athletic dogs. Since they exercise on a regular basis and are very energetic and active, it is rare for them to become overweight.

This dog breed has an unsurpassed ability to hunt, point and retrieve. They are most notably famous for their pointing abilities, and they take both verbal and visual commands from their owners. Over the past century, they have also been bred to retrieve. They can find downed animals on land and in the water. Besides their great work ethic, Small Münsterländers are also very friendly with families. They are very loyal to the owner they hunt with, but they also have an affinity for the rest of the family. Still, Small Münsterländers need to be treated well and respected or their behaviour may see some negative changes.
