Name of Hotel: Amberley Castle Hotel

County: West Sussex

Amberley Castle is an award winning 900 year old hotel with a colourful history and situated on the South Downs. Over the years it has played host and has been owned by royalty. The hotel is now owned by the Von Essen group.

Its 19 rooms and suites are individually designed and packed with original features, some furnished with four poster beds and Jacuzzi bathrooms and all have tea and coffee making facilities.

There is an 18 hole golf course, tennis court and croquet lawn. A 60 foot high curtain wall surrounds the castle and keeps the gardens private while the portcullis, which is one of a few that still functions in all of Europe, is lowered at midnight each night.

The hotel boasts two restaurants, offering a menu that covers a wide range of tastes and makes use of local seasonal produce. Menus for weddings focus on traditional dishes and options are available for vegetarians. The hotel can cater for events holding up to 56 guests within the castle itself or 150 guests where a marquee has been hired.

For those planning their wedding at Amberley Castle, exclusive use of the hotel is available on Fridays and Saturdays and the events team are able to ensure that the day is tailored to individual requirements. Functions for up to 40 guests can be held within the Castle.

For an added touch of glamour, arrivals and departures by one of the Von Essen helicopters can be arranged.
