Natural pain management

Ice baths

An ice bath is not always an easy thing to set up. When you are in severe and chronic pain, however, it could be just what you need to get through the day. There is a reason why professional sports teams have invested in cryotechnology as an after-sports recovery aid. You may not be able to afford a cryochamber, but an ice bath can be the next best thing. Exposing your body to intense levels of cold can kick-start a number of repair mechanisms which will help you to reduce or manage pain. It releases a large amount of proteins that come together to decrease inflammation in your body and help you start to recover.

If your pain is due to an injury, then an ice bath will help you heal from it faster and be back to your old self before you know it. If you are in chronic pain on a daily basis, then an ice bath may not help you recover, but it will reduce your pain without the need for medication.

Hot baths

Ice baths release proteins that help relieve pain, but hot baths alleviate your discomfort in an entirely different way. The heat from a hot bath helps relax your muscles. This means that any tension that has been building up in your muscles will fade away, which lowers your pain level in turn. A hot bath will cause your blood vessels to dilate and help increase blood flow to the painful area. This will provide your muscles with more oxygen and reduce any inflammation that has built up.
