Rajapalayam – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Rajapalayam is an Indian dog breed that has been around for hundreds of years and while it was a popular dog in the past, it isn’t as popular or prevalent today. In fact it is in danger of extinction. It is hard to find a Rajapalayam in India, although there are some dogs that have Rajapalayam blood. While the history of Rajapalayam is unknown, many dog historians believe that the breed is an ancestor of the modern Dalmatian dog breed.

Having two key purposes, the Rajapalayam is a valuable working dog. When hunting, the Rajapalayam uses its keen sense of sight to find well-concealed, distant or camouflaged animals. When not hunting, the Rajapalayam dog breed makes a good guard dog. They are protective of their owner as well as where they live. They are wary of strangers and will protect the area and guard it from harm if they feel threatened. As the owner of one of these dogs, it is important to socialise it from an early age and to show it when a stranger is a friend.

Although coat colours can vary, the Rajapalayam is typically all white. They resemble Albino dogs because their noses will be pink and their eyes pink or golden. They can also be black or brown, both in solid and spotted varieties. Breeders typically want the white variety and they take precautions to avoid other colours in the litter.
