Shooter

This is a political thriller which is based on a novel by author Stephen Hunter. Trust me, the movie is much better than the book.

This is the story of an expert marksman by the name of Mark Wahlberg who has gone into seclusion after becoming a bit jaded about his career. His colleagues coax him out of his “retirement,” by telling him that they need is help to prevent the success of a plot to kill the President of the United States. However, the joke is on poor Mark as it turns out his colleagues have double-crossed him and now he has been set up and framed for an attempt made on the President’s life.

Now Mark has to go on the run. He must elude every law enforcement agency in the country who are on his tail while he tries to route out the real culprits and bring them to justice. He now must become a one man judge and jury, finding those responsible and then handing them over to authorities in order to clear his own name.

Lots of heart-stopping action in this movie. I personally enjoyed it because some of the scenes were shot in my old home town of Philadelphia – and even in the building of one of my old employers, the city’s daily newspaper.

Danny Glover and Michael Peña are the co-stars of this movie, and while it was never number one at the box office, it is still a pretty good thriller that will hold the viewer’s attention for its two hour or so running time.
