Should you listen to online reviews when choosing your new mattress?

Mattress in a box

With the recent explosion in the ‘bed-in-a-box’ market, there’s an abundance of information and choice online for anyone buying their next mattress. If you’re staring blankly at the pages and pages of search results, we’ve got a few handy pointers for you.

The first thing to remember is we all sleep very differently. I’m sure we’ve all had disagreements with our partners over a misplaced limb or a poorly positioned pillow! So, think about this when researching opinions on mattresses online. A perfect mattress for one person could well be a sleepless night for another.

Check reviews on trusted sites

While there are literally hundreds of places selling mattresses of all varieties, it is worth checking an independent site for some less biased opinions too. Finding out how the mattress has performed in a real world situation can be a lot more telling than a faceless set of statistics.

Ask questions

You know those “Contact Us’ buttons on websites? They’re there for a reason! Although the number of people of buying their mattresses online is continuing to grow, there’s no reason why the more personal experience of a bricks-and-mortar store should disappear entirely. Telling the retailers your particular sleeping habits and asking their expert advice can cut out a lot of the trial and error.

Look at it objectively

As we’ve said before, a great mattress for your friend isn’t necessarily going to work for you at all. The right mattress for a side-sleeper is not going to be the same as that for a back-sleeper. If you’re reading reviews, check what criteria the reviewer considered important. If this wouldn’t affect your decision, maybe don’t put so much weight on their rating.

But, overall, it’s a great idea to do as much research as possible when buying a new mattress. Just be sure to keep in mind your own particular wants and needs, and you’ll be more prepared to find your perfect mattress online.
