The NHS



The National Health Service was set up on 5th July 1948. The prime focus to set up this organization was to render health care services to all citizens considering their needs irrespective of their paying capacity. The National health services aims to provide health care at the grass root level and measures are taken for the same. With the state of art facility and equipment with well qualified professionals this certainly takes care of all your health requirements whatever it may be. This is especially established for people who are at times unable to take up the required services for monetary reasons most of the services are free other than dental care, eye care and personal care. These health care facilities are meant for anyone residing in UK.
This is more commonly referred as NHS.
The Department of health, which is a governmental organization in UK manages the National Health Service. The Department of Health has the overall decision making capacity for any policy or issues with regards to health. It is also the responsibility of this department to make sure that general public gets all the required health services through the National Health Service. The tax payers fund the National Health Service.
National Health Services were launched as a single organization and hospitals boards of about 14 regions were based around it. It was initially divided into parts:
local authority health services, including community nursing and health visiting,
opticians and pharmacists,
dentists,
family doctors,
hospital services
Since the time it has been launched in 1948 there have been changes for the betterment and convenience of the public in patient services and organizational structure of National Health Services. Strategic Health authorities or SHAs currently run the National Health Services at the local level.
To make sure proper health care reaches to every individual 28 Strategic Health Authorities are set up in the whole of England. These were set up with an intention of improving and developing health services in local area. These organizations also make sure that the local National Health Services were performing well and delivered what was expected. The Strategic health Authorities were set up in England in the year 2002.
Various departments like dentistry, optical services, injury services etc. are set up to take care of your health requirement. All the disease and infections whether it is chronic or acute are being treated under one roof with the best of the professionals at your disposal. Most of the doctors and nurses are employed with NHS or work in NHS run hospitals in UK, apart having their own practice.
Each Strategic Health Authorities divides the National health Services into different parts of trust. They also take the responsibility to run the National Heath Services at the local level smoothly
The different types of trust are:
primary care trusts (PCTs).
mental health trusts,
care trusts,
ambulance trusts,
acute trusts
National Health Service works towards keeping people healthy and to ensure prompt service to its patients as per their needs and preference with its comprehensive range of services.
