Braque Saint-Germain – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Braque Saint-Germain is a gun dog originating in France. However, being a gun dog is not this breed’s only skill. They are effectively used as a pointer as well. This hunter was created in the mid 1800’s by cross breeding both English and French pointing dogs. They have excellent capabilities in hunting all sorts of small game.

This breed is speedy and flexible. They need a lot of exercise. If they are used as a housedog, they should have activities to burn some of their natural energy. The Braque Saint-Germain can be good companions but they are the happiest when hunting. Having tasks to do, helps them bond with their owners. A strong desire to please and interact with the owner is inherent in this canine.

This medium to large sized dog is built with a sturdy shape. The legs are slender, the body is tone, the ears are not too long and hang down and the tail is set low and tapers to a point. Typically, the tail is carried horizontally. The nose is not black; it should be pink in colour. The coat is a combination of white and orange or fawn. It is short in length but the texture is not too fine. The Braque Saint-Germain is considered a rare breed.
