Brittany – Dog Breed Information and Pictures



The Brittany is a breed that originated in France. The specific locale was the Brittany province, which is the reason for their name. They are a working dog that is similar to the pointer or setter. Other common names for the Brittany are American Brittany, Brittany Pointer, Brittany Spaniel, Brittany Wiegref and the Epagneul Breton.

There are two main types of Brittany dogs. The American Brittany is a taller and faster kind of canine. It is meant to hunt over more ground and diverse terrain such as what America has to offer. The French Brittany can work better with guns and it can handle more local areas of terrain.

The Brittany is a medium size dog that is rather compact. Their bodies appear very athletic and solid. They have long legs and their tails can be either long or short in this breed. Their fur coats are of medium length. The colours consist of combinations that include white, orange or liver. Typically, bi-coloured or tri-coloured coats appear on this breed.

The personality of this breed is highly intelligent which makes them easy to train. The Brittany is very loving and affectionate. They do need socialization and training if they are to be companions. They do well as hunters or as a pet. If they are kept as a pet, it is imperative to allow them exercise daily. They are not a dog that will be happy inside small homes. They need room to run and play frequently.
