Caerphilly Castle

Location: Caerphilly, Mid Glamorgan

The magnificence of Caerphilly’s fourteenth century castle is undeniable; it is one of the largest of its kind in Europe, complete with moat and leaning tower – you just cannot compete with grandeur on this scale. For a medieval themed wedding this is the perfect venue; you enter over the wooden drawbridge, and photographs can be taken on the battlements or alongside the lake. Caerphilly poses a most romantic and evocative stage.

It is fully licensed to conduct wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships and also equipped to host the reception and evening entertainments. These are all held in the splendour of the Grand Hall where kings and princes once dined, now fitted with catering facilities, a bar and dance floor. Caerphilly Castle’s Grand Hall can take 150 seated guests and up to 200 during the evening’s festivities.

Accommodation for you and your guests can be found at a number of excellent hotels and guesthouses around Caerphilly or in Cardiff which is only 6 miles away. There is also plenty to entertain those staying over with the beautiful scenery of the Rhondda and Taff valleys, a trip to Cardiff city centre or a visit to the many tourist sites locally.

Caerphilly Castle is situated north of Cardiff, to reach it you leave the M4 motorway at junction 32 and follow the A470 following the signs for Caerphilly town centre. For those arriving by train, you will need to change at Cardiff Central and catch the Caerphilly train direct into the town centre. The Castle is a five minute walk from the station.
